Introduction

Green Dragon Fest is a yearly, curated event for tabletop role-playing games held at picturesque Ancient Lore Village near Knoxville, Tennessee where players get to join games run by well-known game masters from Youtube, the game design community, and beyond.

Move Fast And Fix Stuff

I was initially tasked in the fall of 2024 to help with a hasty migration of the original Green Dragon Fest website from Hubspot to another hosting service as well as provide frontend development services necessary to translate the Hubspot templates to a stack powered by Python on the backend and Jinja templates on the frontend. The initial migration happened over the course of 4-6 weeks. As it became clear that I could provide design supoort within the established conventions to solve urgent issues, design responsibilities quickly shifted to my plate. My ability to collaborate with stakeholders quickly and provide user-focused solutions was critical to the success of the migration.

The Green Dragon Fest website had an established design and rough layout before I became involved, which we did not want to blow up due to the short timeline. On all device views we focused on making the design cleaner and more direct, organizing information intuitively, increasing the impact of calls-to-action, and improving form design and functionality.

Working with the site's backend developer, we were able to expose important data about tickets remaining and bookable rooms to the frontend so users were more capable of making decisions about attendance and accommodations quickly.

This is an ongoing engagement. I continue to provide design and development services whenever new challenges arise. My commitment to continual improvements within the original design parameters is a critical aspect of the project's success.
